York, March 4th 1750-1. . . [2 paragraphs, verse in Latin]
THE MOON IS A WOMAN. Translated.
The moon grows red, pale, big, and walks by night,
And roves, all which bespeak a woman right,
The moon makes horns, so woman in her way,
The moon but ev'ry month, she ev'ry day.
. . . [4 lines, epigram in Latin]
TRANSLATED.
From dear Chloe, I stole two kisses in play,
But she from myself stole myself quite away,
I grieve not I play'd, but I broke off such sport,
I'm more pleas'd with the play, that griev'd at the hurt.
